Extended Service Terms (EST)

Overview

Work 365 supports Microsoft's Extended Service Terms (EST) program. Partners can control how subscriptions behave at the end of their term, aligning with Microsoft's renewal policies for CSP direct bill partners.

Under Microsoft's EST program, subscriptions that are not explicitly renewed or cancelled before their term end date may be extended under specific conditions, rather than automatically cancelling. Work 365 provides an EST Renewal Policy setting, giving partners control over how each subscription behaves when its term ends.

EST Renewal Policy Options

Partners can configure the following renewal behavior for each subscription:

  • Auto-Renew — The subscription renews automatically at the end of the term under Microsoft's standard renewal terms.
  • Extended Service Term — The subscription enters an Extended Service Term as permitted by Microsoft's EST policy, continuing month-to-month until cancelled or renewed.
  • Cancel at Term End — The subscription is cancelled when the current term expires.

How to Configure EST Renewal Policy

  1. Open the subscription you want to configure.
  2. Navigate to the Renewal settings section.
  3. Select the appropriate EST Renewal Policy for the subscription.
  4. Save the setting. The policy will be applied when the subscription approaches its term end date.

EST Renewal Policy settings can also be managed in bulk across multiple subscriptions.

Key Considerations

  • EST policies are per-subscription. Review your subscription portfolio and set policies appropriate for each customer.
  • Changes to renewal policies should be made before the term end date — Microsoft applies cutoff windows for policy changes.
  • Use Renewal Instructions (see Section 2) to schedule specific quantity or term changes at renewal in conjunction with EST policies.
